Why I Now Travel With “Medical Water” (And You Can Too)

Why I Now Travel With “Medical Water” (And You Can Too) - My Store

By Liana Werner-Gray

I only discovered this a few months ago… and it’s completely changed the way I travel.

You know how at the airport the security will usually ask you to throw away your water bottle? That is unless it is “medical water”.

This meant that we were forced to buy water at the airport, which is rare to find water in glass, most of the water at airports is in plastic. And then we have no choice but to drink the water with microplastics on the plane. Now I take my own water bottle with me on the plane with clean filtered water, without microplastics.

For someone who has been traveling extensively for the last 17 years, I surely wished I had learned about this sooner. This hack would have saved me a lot of money and microplastics.

What Is “Medical Water”?

“Medical water” is simply water that’s been enhanced with functional ingredients to better support your body.

This can include electrolytes, trace minerals, or other targeted additions depending on what your body needs.

For me, I focus on electrolytes and essential minerals-because they’re foundational for proper hydration.

How to do it:

Get your water bottle, either filtered water from home or a glass water bottle, and add your electrolytes.

Take it to the airport and when you get to security, place it in its own tray and let the TSA personnel you have medical water. They will take it and test it with a laser (they won’t open the bottle). And that’s it! They will give it back to you and you will be on your merry way.

Plus you get a nice boost of hydration with the electrolytes at the airport! From a physiological perspective, your body relies on electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium to regulate fluid balance, support nerve signaling, and help water actually move into your cells.

Without them, you can be drinking water—but not truly absorbing it efficiently. And when you’re traveling - flying, dealing with dry cabin air, changes in routine your body can become even more depleted.

My New Travel Routine

My go-to electrolyte is Redmond Re-Lyte, made by the famous Redmond Real Salt Brand. It’s clean, mineral-rich, and such an easy, effective way to upgrade your hydration.

I always keep my Redmond Re-Lyte sachets with me in my carry-on, and I’m intentional about adding them to my water whenever I can.

So simple—but such a game changer.

Why I’m Loving This So Much

Since I started doing this, I’ve noticed a big difference when I travel:

  • I feel more hydrated (not just temporarily)
  • I have more stable energy
  • I don’t get that same drained feeling after flying
  • My body feels more supported overall
  • I feel less inflammation while traveling
  • My skin doesn’t get as dry!

It’s one of those small changes that actually makes a big impact.

If You Travel, Try This!

If you’re someone who travels-even occasionally this is something I really recommend trying. It’s simple, it’s clean, and it supports your body in a way most people are missing. And once you start, you’ll understand why I’m not going back.
