For Prostate Cancer do These 3 Things Daily: 

In 17 years of researching natural health and sciences, plus working with people dealing with cancer, these are the three natural compounds I’ve found to be the most powerful and easiest to incorporate into daily life for supporting the body’s defense against prostate cancer.

1. Sulforaphane (from broccoli sprouts)

One of the most studied anti-cancer compounds with over 2,000 scientific papers! Sulforaphane supports detoxification, reduces inflammation, and has been shown in studies to help trigger apoptosis (the natural death of damaged or cancerous cells) and slow tumor growth.

Study: The men who ate the broccoli showed changes in gene activity that are associated with slowing cancer growth and progression with prostate cancer.

2. Apricot Seeds / B17 (Amygdalin)

Often called “God’s perfect chemo.” Apricot kernels contain amygdalin, a compound that breaks down in the body and has been studied for its ability to target cancer cells. Indigenous cultures around the world have traditionally consumed these bitter seeds as part of their diets for thousands of years. Unlike conventional chemo apricots seeds spare the healthy cell while killing the cancer cell.

In laboratory experiments using human prostate cancer cells:

Amygdalin triggered apoptosis (programmed death of cancer cells).

It increased Bax, a protein that promotes cancer cell death.

It decreased Bcl-2, a protein that normally helps cancer cells survive.

Another Study: Amygdalin slowed the ability of prostate cancer cells to grow and multiply in laboratory experiments.

Researchers exposed several prostate cancer cell lines to amygdalin and found:

Tumor cell growth decreased

Cancer cells stopped dividing as quickly

3. Liquid Chlorophyll

The green pigment of plants that helps support the body’s natural detox pathways. Chlorophyll helps to bind toxins, support liver function, oxygenate the blood, and create an internal environment that supports overall cellular health that makes the body inhospitable to cancer. 

Study: Chlorophyllin Reduces Aflatoxin-DNA Damage (PNAS / Johns Hopkins) A human study with 180 participants showed chlorophyllin supplementation reduced biomarkers of carcinogen-DNA damage by 55% compared with placebo. https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2001/chlorophyllin

Study: A compound that comes from chlorophyll was able to damage prostate cancer cells and stop them from multiplying in lab experiments. The chlorophyll-derived compound:

Reduced prostate cancer cell viability

Slowed cell growth and spread

Caused cell cycle arrest (stopping cancer cells from dividing)

Triggered oxidative stress that led to cancer cell death

1. Randomized Clinical Trial (Men Waneith Rising PSA After Prostate Surgery)

A double-blind, placebo-controlled trial tested sulforaphane in men whose prostate cancer returned after prostate removal.

Study:

“Effect of Sulforaphane in Men with Biochemical Recurrence after Radical Prostatectomy”

Key findings

78 men with recurrent prostate cancer participated.

They took 60 mg sulforaphane daily for 6 months.

Men taking sulforaphane had significantly lower increases in PSA levels compared with placebo.  

Meaning:

2. Phase II Clinical Trial (Broccoli Sprout Extract)

Study:

“A Phase II Study of Sulforaphane-Rich Broccoli Sprout Extracts in Men with Recurrent Prostate Cancer”

Key findings

20 men with recurrent prostate cancer took sulforaphane extract for 20 weeks.

PSA doubling time increased from 6.1 months to 9.6 months.

Treatment was safe and well tolerated.  

Meaning:

3. Randomized Controlled Trial (Gene Expression in Prostate Tissue):

Study:

“Sulforaphane Bioavailability and Chemopreventive Activity in Men Presenting for Prostate Biopsy”

Key findings:

98 men were given broccoli sprout extract or placebo.

Sulforaphane altered gene expression linked to prostate cancer development, including downregulation of cancer-related genes.  

Meaning:

4. ESCAPE Trial (Dietary Broccoli Study)

A randomized trial tested diets rich in glucoraphanin (the precursor to sulforaphane) in men with prostate cancer under active surveillance.

Key findings:

The intervention changed gene expression in prostate tissue associated with cancer progression.  

Research in men with prostate cancer shows sulforaphane from broccoli sprouts may:

Slow PSA progression

Increase PSA doubling time

Influence genes involved in prostate cancer development

Act as a potential chemopreventive compound

ESCAPE Trial (Prostate Cancer + Sulforaphane/Broccoli)

Study:

“Transcriptional changes in prostate of men on active surveillance after a 12-month glucoraphanin-rich broccoli intervention — results from the ESCAPE randomized controlled trial.”

Published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (2019).

Summary: The men who ate the broccoli showed changes in gene activity that are associated with slowing cancer growth and progression.

What the study did:

49 men with prostate cancer on active surveillance participated.

They consumed broccoli soup with high glucoraphanin (the precursor to sulforaphane) for 12 months.

Researchers analyzed prostate biopsy tissue before and after the diet intervention.  

What they found:

Men consuming the high-glucoraphanin broccoli showed:

Changes in gene expression inside prostate tissue

Suppression of pathways linked to cancer progression and inflammation

A dose-dependent effect — the more glucoraphanin consumed, the stronger the protective gene-expression pattern.  

Researchers concluded the results were consistent with reduced risk of prostate cancer progression, though larger trials are needed.  

A randomized clinical trial published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that men with prostate cancer who consumed glucoraphanin-rich broccoli (the precursor to sulforaphane) for one year showed beneficial changes in gene expression in prostate tissue associated with reduced cancer progression.
